Putting Your House In Order

Many readers will be familiar with this expression. It means a few things, which can occur on several different planes of reality. This is why it is useful for a site like House Therapy. Most of us are complex human beings. Putting your house in order can be an effort to draw together some of our disparate strands. That may be because parts of ourselves unhelpfully contradict each other. Living paradoxically is not always easy. I am not saying one way is better or worse, it is just that sometimes push comes to shove. Getting our shit together is another crude way of saying this.

Getting Your Shit Together

I think, one of the most important insights, which emerges out of this situation is that we do have many strands within our identities. We are never truly one thing or another. That is why in the polarising times in which we live, it is wise to reflect on that, especially during the pushing and the shoving. Putting your house in order happens on various levels, with the inner order and the outer arrangement bearing a symbiotic relationship, hopefully. As above, so below – that kind of thing.

Rearranging The Furniture

Discipline and order like to hang together. They serve the bringing together of subpersonalities and character traits. To serve one master is the key at these times. It does not have to be a permanent arrangement. Often times, this is a temporary push to get something done. To achieve a goal or an aim. The house is a metaphor and symbol for who we are and where we live. There might be many rooms in your house but, during this time, you want to know what and where they are. Putting your house in order requires that.

“In our daily lives, we often use words or phrases to describe things in a way that isn’t meant to be taken literally. One such way is through metaphors, which help us understand complex ideas by comparing them to something more familiar. Imagine if we could describe our homes using metaphors – what would they be? Let’s embark on a journey to explore the various metaphors that people use to describe their homes.”
