The US Just Voted With Russia At The UN Over Ukraine
Australia should no longer consider Trump’s America as an ally. The US just voted with Russia at the UN over Ukraine. Trump and his minions have sided with Putin’s Russia. America is no longer a friend to democracy but is now aligned with dictators. Australians and the Australian government need to reconsider long held assumptions around foreign affairs in the current political climate. In my opinion, putting the AUKUS deal on hold immediately would be advisable. It is time to stand outside of the status quo arrangement and to recover our national sovereignty when it comes to military matters. Donald Trump is a proven liar, corrupt, and cannot be trusted, especially re-international treaties.

Donald Trump’s America Willing To Sacrifice Ukraine
If Donald Trump’s administration is willing to sacrifice Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for a special relationship with Vladimir Putin, Australia needs to re-evaluate its own relationship with the USA. Now, is not the time to blindly follow historical precedents and assumptions, rather it is time to stand on our own two feet. The American hegemony is over and Australia should look to places like Europe for new and renewed friendships. We do not want to kowtow to undemocratic and authoritarian regimes, wherever and whoever they might be. It is time to rediscover our own courage, as exemplified following the Second World War. AUKUS was a mistake and an unnecessary sell out to a receding American power.
Only A Quarter Of The Adult Population Voted For Trump
Only half of the adult American population voted in the 2024 Presidential election and around half of them voted for Trump. Trump’s Republican’s won by 1.4 points over Harris and this means just over a quarter of the US adult population voted for Donald Trump – this not a mandate for the extreme changes being undertaken in American government right now. The 180 degree reversal regarding US policy around the Russian invasion of Ukraine is outrageous. The Trump lies being spread around who started the 3 YO war is typical of fascist propaganda, where victim blaming is always rife. Donald Trump has assembled a cabinet of yes men and women drawn from the right wing media like Fox News. This light weight celebrity assemblage lacks expertise and real experience in their portfolios. The few Americans who voted for Trump have opted for a reality TV version of federal government – they will rue their support in short order.

Time For Australia To Stand Up Independently
The US aligning with a deeply corrupt Russia in world affairs spells the end of historical alliances and assumptions about special relationships for nations like the UK and Australia. The Australian people must review their world views, as to who are the bad guys and who is the kind of country we can align our interests with. It is time for Australia to stop perceiving itself as weak and step up with courage. Bullies only succeed via the complicity of their victims. Better to go down fighting than to live on your knees. Being smart, street wise and using our intelligence to stand as an independent force for good is the right way to go. I think of past leaders like John Curtin and Herbert Vere (Doc) Evatt as shining examples to emulate.
