Trump The American Imperialist

Canada, Greenland and Panama are the latest candidates for Trump the American imperialist. The tweeting President is throwing up more outrageous bon mots for the international media to get excited over. One is immediately alerted to these being smoke screens and deflections for more sinister machinations. Donald Trump was being sentenced for his conviction for the Stormy Daniels cover up. Thanks to the US Supreme Court no custodial sentence or fine could be levied against the former and now President elect A no penalty sentence was the result, making the United States of America the bad joke for justice award winner for 2025 already.

Trumpist America Inflation

If a nation needed to hang its head in shame over its failure to apply law and order equally to all its citizens, the US takes the cake. Wealth and power reigns supreme in an America in the grip of its right wing extremist SCOTUS and MAGA Trumpists. Americans seem to want to match the Putin’s and Xi’s with their own bullying dictator. Whether Donald Trump will measure up in the authoritarian leader stakes is yet to be seen. Back in the day, the foreign affairs credo was ‘speak softly and carry a big stick.’  Today, it is all braggadocio and an electorate brought up on reality TV and Netflix. Most Americans have never tasted real war and have grown fat on fantasy and fast food. Things will not change until they have had the shit kicked out of them.

Elon Musk Lighting Digital Fires

Meanwhile, Elon Musk is lighting fires in Europe via the wilful misuse of his power to influence millions of people. Telling lies and spreading misinformation about highly emotive issues involving race to stir up hate crimes and cause civil unrest. All of this stuff is only ultimately heading in one direction. Toward war. If the richest man in the world, who controls Starlink and Space X is using his purchase of X, formerly Twitter, to spread disinformation this is  highly dangerous. The Internet and social media platforms have been trading on waves of outrage purposely stirred up by them and their algorithms. This has enraged a populace spending way too much time staring into screens. Combine this with a large bunch of young men working out and overly concerned with body image. All that energy needs to go somewhere and needs an outlet. Violence and war provides those things. A world war is looking far more likely. There are too many people and factors desirous of such an outcome.

“In recent weeks, US President-elect Donald Trump has shown renewed interest in taking control of Greenland, a largely autonomous territory of Denmark in the Arctic and the world’s largest island. He first indicated an intention to buy Greenland in 2019, during his first term as president, but this week he went further, refusing to rule out economic or military force to take control of it.”

Trump the American imperialist has channelled all this disgruntled energy into the politics of grievance for his electoral success. What do dictators do when they don’t have the promised solutions? They direct that energy into things like imperialism. Hitler did it. Napoleon did it. Stalin did it. Putin is doing it. Xi has been doing it. They don’t have the answers to complex domestic problems, so they focus the attention elsewhere. They point it toward external things and turn them into villains for their subjects to vent their wrath upon. Canada, Panama and Greenland. People who have given their power away to authoritarian leaders are not smart and easily led. Many Americans are aggressive, violent and looking for easy answers. America has betrayed its own promise.
